the service pilot aeronautical rating and badge was awarded by the united states army air forces (usaaf) during world war ii to experienced civilian pilots inducted directly into the usaaf to perform various pilot duties not involving direct engagement of enemy forces. the rating was awarded to male commissioned officers, flight/warrant officers and enlisted personnel of the u.s. army air forces only.
