While the Japan Navy (JMSDF) describes the Osumi class as tank landing Ship (LSTs), they lack the bow doors and beaching capability traditionally associated with LSTs.Functionally, their decksk makes the Ōsumi class more like a Dock Landing Ship (LSD).
